All the treats, none of the tricks: Healthy Halloween treats for the whole family
Halloween is a holiday typically reserved for sweet treats and candies, but this year you can make healthy treats for your family that they’re sure to love, guilt-free! With the spooky holiday just around the corner, check out a few of our ideas on how to revamp some delicious treats with a healthy twist.
Candy Corn Chia Seed Popsicles
A creamy, delicious, festive fruit treat, loaded with superfood chia seeds, these popsicles are perfect for Halloween (or all of October). Whisk milk or yogurt and chia seeds, cover and allow to sit in fridge so the chia seeds can expand, at least two hours. Spoon in a bit of the chia pudding into your popsicle molds, then add orange juice, followed by pineapple juice. For best results, and to make sure the colors remain separated, be sure to freeze between each added layer. Enjoy!
Spider Web Pretzel Sticks
These webs are easy to make and have the perfect combination of salty and sweet. All you need is pretzel sticks, white chocolate, dark chocolate, and raisins. Arrange the pretzels in a starburst shape, drizzle melted white chocolate in the center and around the sticks in a circular pattern to resemble a web. Put two raisins in the center, covered in dark chocolate for the spider friend on your web. Freeze them on parchment paper under hardened. For extra nutty flavor and a touch of protein, sprinkle on hemp seeds before the chocolate hardens!
Caramel Apple Slices
Caramel apples can be messy and hard to eat, but with these slices turned lollipops, your family can enjoy one of the best fall treats without the mess. First, wash and slice your apples, remove the seeds, insert the stick at the bottom, and pat the apple slices dry. Cover each apple slice with melted chocolate and leave on a piece of wax or parchment paper to dry. Drizzle caramel, butterscotch, or white chocolate on top, and add chia seeds, hemp seeds, and nuts as desired. When all your slices have hardened, Enjoy!
Spiced Quinoa Apple Pie Parfait
This is one of our favorite quinoa desserts, and it’s perfect for fall! Combine chopped apple, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt in an oven safe dish. Roast apples until soft and caramelized, around 15-20 minutes. Combine dry quinoa with cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, cook according to directions. When the apples and quinoa have cooled, layer in it a glass with Greek yogurt. Add cinnamon and honey as desired! For measurements and more details, find the recipe here.
